Waco,TX Red Barn at Heart of Texas Coliseum circa 1976-1977

Circa mid 70's (don't remember the exact year)...I was a member of the Waco High School Rodeo team. We (some buddys and I) had been to a rodeo at Mc Gregor, TX and Willie was doing a concert at the red barn exhibit hall at the Heart of Texas Coliseum in Waco TX. Following the rodeo on the way home we realized we were too late for the concert and decided to stop by anyway. We were walking around behind the hall and ran into Willie himself. Had a friendly conversation and invited him out to pick guitars and drink beer at Lake Waco. To our surprise he said he wanted to go. About that time someone walked up saying the band was tired, hungry, and had another gig the next night and wanted to eat and get on the road. They wanted to go to Georges'. If you're from the Waco area you know where I'm talking about. Willie had had some adult beverages and maybe some mood altering substances so he made a compromise...If he couldn't hang with us then they would all go to a restaurant named Sambo's (this was a time before political correctness took over. Sambo's was a all night place like a Dennys or a Waffle House) We went home and came back to Sambos and no Willie. Should have went to Georges but didn't think of it at the time. This had to be well below his standards but would have been a hell of a night for a bunch of high school guys who not only could ride bulls but thought they could pick with Willie...(Looking back now...What the hell were we thinking?)Boy I sure miss the 70's
